Konkona Sen Sharma has recently turned director for her first film, titled A Death In The Gunj. The trailer of the film was recently released amid much appreciation. The film, which is based on true incidents, stars Vikrant Massey as the lead actor. However, he is supported with a talented ensemble of stars like Kalki Koechlin, Tillotama Shome, Gulshan Devaiah, Ranvir Shorey, Om Puri, and Tanuja. While the trailer itself packs quite a punch for the viewers, the movie has already been winning accolades at international film festivals.
Konkona’s Movie Based On True Events
A Death In The Gunj has been primarily shot in McCluskiegunj in Jharkhand. It talks about a family who heads to the scenic spot for a family vacation and the subsequent turn of events. In fact, the name of the film has also been derived from the name of the place. The film is set in the 1970’s and is a coming-of-age story.
The film has already been screened in international film festivals held in Toronto and Busan and has won accolades there. But now there is another good news for the Konkona as well as her team. The 18th edition of the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival will open with the screening of A Death In The Gunj on the 21st of October, 2016!

When the director was quizzed about this recent development, she said that it is a true honour for her since Mumbai is her home city. The film was conceived and prepped in Mumbai, hence it will be special when the people of Mumbai will see her work. Congratulatory calls and messages had not even stopped coming in when news flew in they will be playing for a home crowd.
Festival director Anupama Chopra feels that it is a delight that an Indian film will open the prestigious festival yet again. Last year Hansal Mehta’s Aligarh had got the honour.
