Award-winning director, Rajkumar Hirani, began the inception of the Sanjay Dutt biopic around November 2014. He offered the titular role to ace actor Ranbir Kapoor and he instantly gave his nod. The project was supposed to enter the filming process in June this year but it has now got postponed to sometime in January next year. The tentative release date of the movie is Christmas 2017.
Rajkumar Hirani wants to finish with the biopic before beginning work on the Munnabhai sequel. There were earlier rumours that younger actors will be replacing the original iconic actors in the next part of the series. However, Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi, who portrayed the infamous duo of Munnabhai and Circuit respectively, will be playing the popular characters in the next movie too. When Arshad was quizzed about the delay, he said that if the Hirani changes his mind and plans to begin with Munnabhai before the biopic, only then can the audience expect to see Circuit soon.
Sanjay Dutt, who recently completed his jail sentence of the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts in February, will be back on the silver screen after a major hiatus. Since the Munnabhai series is such a huge success, Arshad too is quite excited about stepping into the shoes of Circuit after a long period of ten years. Rajkumar Hirani, who is also a very close friend of Sanjay Dutt, says that these two upcoming projects are very close to his heart. Hence, he does not want to rush with anything.
